SDA’s medical review services include Independent Medical Exams (IMEs), Peer Reviews, Disability Exams, Record and Utilization Reviews, MRI and X-Ray Reviews and Diagnostic Interpretations in all specialties along with evaluation programs for Group Health, Workers’ Compensation as well as Disability Claims and Auto / General Liability Insurance carriers, Third-Party Administrators and Law Firms, Governmental Agencies, Health Insurers and Benefits Administrators.

We will whenever possible schedule the same day with an appropriately licensed physician, manage all preparatory work and provide a comprehensive, definitive and timely final report. We handle the scheduling of appointments and notification of the parties, transportation if needed, an interpreter when required plus all follow-ups related to our services.

Preferred providers will determine an accurate, current diagnosis and make recommendations for ongoing treatment. Independent Medical Reviews
A process where expert independent medical professionals are selected to determine causal relationship, medical status and the appropriateness of the current medical treatment plan, etc. SDA requires all reports to be independently processed by the medical provider, typed and forwarded on their own stationary. SDA does not participate in the production of the reports, ensuring an arms length transaction for our clients. SDA reviews all reports to ensure that essential components of the report are present and that your questions are answered. The medical opinions rendered are those of the examining physician and based upon his/her clinical assessment and review of medical records. Also an objective medical assessment of your claimant to assist you in determining claim compensability and/or liability, restrictions and limitations, employability or disability status. The evaluation is deemed “independent” because the physician who conducts the evaluation is a private practitioner who is neither the examinee’s treating physician nor an employee of the client who requests the evaluation. SDA will provide an IME conducted by one or more physicians, depending on your needs. We can even coordinate a panel evaluation for you if you have a complex case requiring the perspectives of different specialties.
Peer Reviews
A Medical Peer Review is a process whereby providers evaluate the quality of work performed by their colleagues, in order to determine compliance with accepted health care standards. This review is generally a retrospective consideration by a medical professional of equal standard.
Utilization Reviews
A Utilization Review is a review performed to determine the necessary, appropriate, and efficient allocation of health care resources and services given or proposed to be given to a patient. Review may be conducted concurrently or retrospectively. This process uses objective clinical criteria to ensure the services are medically necessary and provided at the appropriate level of care.
Workers’ Compensation – Utilization & Peer Reviews
The reasonableness or necessity of all treatment provided by a health care provider under the Workers’ Compensations act may be subject to prospective, concurrent or retrospective utilization review at the request of an employee, employer, or insurer. It is a review of pertinent bills to determine medical necessity and appropriateness of treatment.
Workers’ Compensation – IMEs
Independent Medical Examinations are evaluations performed by an evaluator not involved in the care of the examinee, for clarifying clinical and case issues. IMEs are an important component of workers’ compensation systems, and are also used to clarify other disability or liability associated cases. Impairment evaluations are often used to provide a more objective understanding of the impact of an injury or illness. The quality of examinations and examiners varies widely, however, having been in the business for more than 25 years, SDA has successfully identified skilled, thorough and unbiased examiners.

A review of the actual MRI’s, CT scans, or X-ray images read by a board certified radiologist to determine the diagnostic impression.
